Words

I recently graduated from college and planning my exciting journey to Buenos Aires, Argentina to pursue a medical internship (and to do lots of traveling…maybe I’ll learn the tango)! Last week, I saw the movie Eat, Pray, Love with my mom. (A few years back, I read half of the book- but didn’t appreciate it as much as I would now.) While the movie scored bad reviews, I thought it was pretty good. Let’s face it, whether you’re a guy or girl- who doesn’t want to marvel over James Franco’s good looks? I thought the movie/book (movie in my situation) was applicable to me in the sense that Elizabeth Gilbert is a woman searching to understand herself. She takes one year to travel to various countries and meets all kinds of people hoping to find clarity in her life. One thing Gilbert mentioned that stuck out to me was how every person can be described by one word (or 3 in Gilbert’s case). Even though Gilbert had one year, I have the next 3 months to begin my search...I am so excited!

So for now, I want to begin this blog by saying how I’m in search of my word. Not that I think I can be summarized in one or two words, but it’s worth a try. I think each person is so complex and whether your family or friends know you, they don’t know you as well as you know yourself. I know that sounds pretty cliché but its true. Only you know your abilities; only you know your feelings; and only you know your limits. Everyone has so many qualities and characteristics that are unique to them. Some people might express certain qualities in other people while others can’t and vice-versa. (For instance, I might always make my friend laugh while another person can’t; however, she can make that friend feel good about herself.) Some people may think it’s dumb to be summarized by one or two words, but I don’t. It’s important to identify with yourself and if that word gets you there, then so be it. So as I get ready to set sail on my exciting escapade, I will start thinking of how I can determine my word (or words). So this is my new endeavor- appreciating, identifying, and understanding myself through words- because after all, words are the key ingredient in life.

So welcome to my home, and get ready for my adventures…
